EDUCATIONAL FUND TO STOP GUN VIOLENCE CONDEMNS STATE OF THE UNION INVITATION TO TED NUGENT
Washington, DC — The Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence (Ed Fund) expressed astonishment today that Ted Nugent, the former rock star turned gun advocate notorious for his threatening, racist, homophobic and sexist language, will be attending the State of the Union Address.Nugent, who is on the board of the NRA, has been invited by Rep. Steven Stockman (R-TX), who described him as a “patriot” — despite Nugent’s stated view that President Obama and much of his cabinet are “criminals” who deserve to have their heads chopped off.”I can’t think of any public figure less appropriate for such an occasion,” said Josh Horwitz, Ed Fund executive director. “Nugent’s threats against the president have been investigated by the Secret Service, and now he’s going to be admitted into the House chamber as an honored guest, no less, to listen to the president’s speech.” Horwitz said his presence would be in particularly bad taste, since 30 victims of gun violence and their families will also be attending. “Certainly, an advocate for pro-gun policy deserves to see his president speak,” Horwitz added, “but perhaps not one who has threatened a President and called Hillary Clinton a ‘toxic c*nt.'”

MeettheNRA.org provides details on Nugent and his commentary. The site is an invaluable resource for journalists and the public to learn about the NRA Leadership through their own words.

Rep. Stockman, one of the most conservative Republicans in Congress who has said he would consider pushing for President Obama’s impeachment if he introduced gun control measures in the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre, issued a press release praising Nugent and added: “After the Address I’m sure Ted will have plenty to say.”

In fact, Nugent has already had plenty to say.

He told the 2012 NRA annual meeting: “Our president and attorney general, our vice president (and) Hillary Clinton, they’re criminals. We’re Americans because we defied the king… We are patriots. We are Braveheart. We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November.”

In an interview with Guns.com during the Shooting, Hunting, Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show, he claimed the Obama administration “is attempting to re-implement the tyranny of King George” and that “if you want another Concord Bridge, I got some buddies.” When CBS News reporter Jeff Glor suggested Nugent was not a moderate, Nugent responded: “I’m an extremely loving and passionate man, and people who investigate me honestly, without the baggage of political correctness, ascertain the conclusion that I’m a damned nice guy … and if you can find a screening process more powerful than that, I’ll s*ck your d**k.”

Nugent then turned to Glor’s female producer and said, “Or I’ll f**k you, how’s that sound?”

In a column published on the Birther website WND, Nugent alleged that if a Republican president had the same foreign policy as Obama, “Jesse Jackson and Al Not-So-Sharpton would be lisping their ebonic mumbo-jumbo that the policy and the president are racist and bigoted.”

The Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence seeks to secure freedom from gun violence through research, strategic engagement and effective policy advocacy.
